Siargao is a small island that is becoming more and more popular. I absolutely loved the island and know you would too. When you travel to Siargao be prepared with that the island is not very developed, but that’s part of its charm. Traveling to Siargao is like traveling back in time. Despite its size, Siargao is filled with many beautiful and fun places, allowing you to spend several weeks on the island and still see something new every day. I felt at home immediately upon landing, love that feeling in entirely new places. That’s when you know it’s a great place.
Surfing in Siargao
Siargao has good surfing opportunities for beginners or experienced surfers. The place for beginners to learn to surf is called Cloud 9. You can either rent a surfboard and surf on your own or pay a little more for a lesson if you’ve never surfed before, which is so much fun! In addition to Cloud 9, there are many other beaches where you can surf. I am a beginner myself and only surfed on Cloud 9, so I can’t really recommend other beaches. However, it’s easy to find. Just rent a scooter and start driving along the coast, and you will see several beaches with surfers, maybe you can find your own favorite.
Stay in General Luna on when you travel to Siargao
There is a place (like a village) on the island with many restaurants and cafes called General Luna. It is also in General Luna where there is accommodation and it is really the only place where you can eat/stay. The rest of the island is quite empty in this regard and more for the local population. Still, you should go around and explore the entire island and experience everything outside of General Luna. Check out my other post about food you shouldn’t miss in Siargao to get the best tips on places to eat in General Luna.

Rent a Scooter and Drive Around the Island
One of the things that is a must on your trip to Siargao is to rent a scooter and drive around the island among all the palm trees. Driving around the entire island takes only a few hours, and the road is good to drive on. This is something you shouldn’t miss
- The viewpoint with all the palm trees, you will find it on the road.
- Magpungko Rock Pools, keep an eye on when it is low tide so that there is a rock pool when you are there.
- Tayangban Cave Pools. Here you need to walk through a cave to get to a place with a cave pool that has very blue and beautiful water, extremely nice!
- Tak Tak Waterfall is a waterfall located at the top of the island. Very nice and refreshing water in the hot weather.
- Maasin River Roap Swing is a palm tree bent over a river where they have hung up a rope that you can swing in and then jump into the river. Not only is it fun, but it’s also so beautiful.
Island Hopping
Of course, there is island hopping in Siargao, as everywhere in the Philippines, and even here, it is a magical experience. We went to three islands on our trip to Siargao, Naked Island, Guyam, and Daku. Naked Island is just as it sounds, an island with nothing on it except white sand. The other islands have dreamy beaches, lots of palm trees, and cozy places to just enjoy life. Find out more about island hopping here.
Visit Sugba Lagoon when you travel to Siargao
Another place that is wonderful to visit on your trip to Siargao is Sugba Lagoon. We booked a full day through one of the hotels on the island, BRAVO, where we visited Sugba Lagoon and Kawhagan Island. Sugba Lagoon is so beautiful that it makes you drop your jaw. There you can rent a stand-up paddleboard or paddle a canoe to explore the lagoon. It is also a good place to snorkel. There is also a trampoline that you can jump from and a house they have built in the middle of the lagoon where you can keep your things, etc. Extremely beautiful and a unique experience. Kawhagan Island is also so beautiful, like everything else in the Philippines. This is a really good day trip to do, perfect is a good word to describe it. You can get there on your own by booking privately through a local, but we wanted to do this trip with others, and it turned out to be a really fun day.
Other information about traveling to Siargao
In addition to all this, there are, of course, many things to experience and see. The best way is, as mentioned before, to rent a scooter and stop where you find it interesting. The people on the island are helpful and friendly, and many can speak English. Accommodation is very easy to find via booking or hostelworld.
